Grant Medical College & Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals is located at the northern end of JJ flyover. Sandhurst road station is the closest on the central and harbour lines, a 10 min walking distance from the college.
Mumbai central is the closest on the western line. A number of buses are also available from all parts of the city.

Generally the fourth choice after GS Med College (KEM Hosp.), L.T. Municipal Med College (Sion Hosp.) and T.N. Med College (Nair Hosp.) get filled up.

Everything here is older than what your great great grandfather would have been if he was still alive but things are changing. Lots of grants were received from the state government (120 crores in 2007) for a complete makeover of the college and the hospital, but wonder where that money went?
Hostel Facilities:
Ladies Hostel comprises of 2 separate buildings - the Old hostel and Apna Hostel with a capacity of 160 and 80 rooms respectively.
There are three boys hostels.
1) R M Bhatt Hostel - 175 rooms for 200 students
2) Apna boys Hostel - 239 rooms for 350 students
3) BMS Hostel - 16 rooms for 40 students

Rs. 20,000/year
Faculty:
The students and consequently the professors have a very casual attitude towards studies. Lectures and practicals are irregular in the latter years. You're not spoon-fed, you're forced to study yourself with all the time you can possibly ask for.
Hospitals affiliated:
Students are sent to the following hospitals:
JJ, Gokuldas Tejpal, Cama & Albless and St. George.
There is an abundance of patients in these hospitals, so get a good opportunity to gain practical experience.
Crowd:
Saddening. you should be mentally prepared for a drastic change in the kind of people who'll be your colleagues if you're from Mumbai.
Its not that they're bad or you're great, its just that theirs is a different culture, their upbringing has been very different from yours. But one gets used to it.
Canteen:
There are innumerable canteens (more than 10) and with hardly any places nearby where you can go to eat, these are the only choices you've got.
Service is not bad, the food is terrific value for money. The aesthetics and the ambience are equally terrible though. Basically it serves its purpose going by its location in the hospital that serves the poorest of the poor. And yeah, home-cooked food rocks.
Hangouts:
ABSOLUTELY NONE; you need to travel to actually hang out. The campus is big enough to get lost in.
The college being in south Mumbai makes it less of a pain though.
Attendance:
Hardly any/none as compared to the other colleges; lots of time for doing what you want to do (best spent studying). That's one of the major plus points of this college.
Festivals:
2 festivals are held in a year. the sports festival is held in the 1st week of feb (cricket, TT, volleyball are the favourites here but other sports aren't exactly neglected) and the cultural festival in the 1st week of march. students of II/III form the organizing committee. other than that, random ministers regularly come here and inaugrate various projects; you may help with those functions if you want to.

This college isn't exactly the best place for geeks. Focus on studies is not the same as it is in other colleges. It'll teach you everything you need to know to face the world when you start with your practice, besides your subject.
